MTV: McCartney Television

If you're an American Beatles fan like I am, you've probably seen that Paul McCartney has been going around the late night television circuit lately to promote his new album that's coming out in a couple days "The Boys of Dungeon Lane". If you didn't catch his recent appearances, here's what you missed out on.

Last week Paul was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.

Will Ferrel was guest host this night. During the monologue, they joked about how Will and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers look similar to each other.

Also if you're reading this, hi Max.

Paul played the lead single from his album, "Days We Left Behind" as well as Band On The Run, and during the credits, Coming Up. I did not pay much attention to the show itself (I was watching mostly for McCartney) but I thought Paul put on a good show.

Last night marked the end of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I don't really like Colbert or most of the modern late night hosts but when I found out Paul was a guest on the final show, I knew I had to tune in. This is the first time a late night show has been outright cancelled since the Late Late Show some 3 years ago, and the first of the 3 big network's late night shows to be cancelled. The Late Show has been on for so long it feels weird knowing the show itself won't go on. It's like if the Tonight Show got cancelled rather than just replacing the host.

They went all out on the final Late Show. They had a bunch of celebrity cameos, Bryan Cranston,  Jon Stewart, Jimmys Kimmel and Fallon, Paul Rudd (HUGE missed oppertunity to play that clip from Mac & Me) among others. (No Conan sadly) Paul came on and talked about the new album and his first time on the Ed Sullivan Show with The Beatles. He said the makeup was bright orange. I can not imagine Paul McCartney with bright orange makeup on looking like the Annoying Orange.

Paul gave Colbert a signed photo of The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, with Colbert jokingly saying he wrote "To Stephen, you're better than The Beatles" on it. 😂

Paul performed not a song from Dungeon Lane or any other solo album, but rather fittingly, Hello Goodbye. Colbert himself + his house band and Elvis Costello joined him.

During the "Hela, heba-helloa" part at the end, the audience was invited on set to sing and dance along.

I paid much more attention to this than SNL, a very good series finale imo.
