Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum: What's The Hold Up?

If you've ever been to Metro-Detroit or have ever been a chronicly online 13 year old in the past 5 years, then you've probably heard of Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. Formerly in Farmington Hills Michigan, the best way to describe this place is very hectic and in some places, a bit cluttered. The atmoshphere of old Marvin's can't be beat.

Some two years ago, the place was put into jeopardy when a major renovation of the shopping center was announced, including the demolition of Marvin's, for new stores, most notably a Meijer. Opposition began almost immediately after the plans were announced. A petition to save the place got over 50k signatures. This was one of the city's only indoor tourist attractions (Most of thems are like, parks and shit), and the only happy/fun one as well. This was sadly all for nothing, as it was announced that Marvin's would be getting the boot. Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum closed on January 5th, 2025, and began moving to a new location in West Bloomfield Township soon after.

Now, here's the problem. It's been over a year since Marvin's closed, and there have been very few official updates at all. I'm starting to get impatient and i've heard others are too. The last official update was TWO MONTHS AGO!! 😵‍💫 If they updated us more often, I and other's would likely be less impatient.

Like, this kid on YouTube has given us more updates than Marvin3M has in a whole YEAR. 😂

Then there's what feels like the constant delays. First it was Summer 2025, then Fall 2025, then January 2026, then Late February/Early March, then Late April, and now Late May!!! 😵‍💫 At this rate we'll all be dead by the time it opens. Not a concrete date in sight, not even a sign on the building. What's the hold up?

Well I have my theories. For one, they had to build the new location completely from scratch. The place was essentially a shell before they moved in. Rebuilding from scratch is way more expensive then just taking over something already built. The property taxes in West Bloomfield have to be expensive as hell also. I know that back in the Summer they had some building permits that needed to be sorted out before construction could begin, and that probably didn't help much. Fingers crossed they keep to the late May opening date. 🤞
